The Commissioner of the IRS, John Koskinen, has announced that new regulations concerning the political activity of 501(c)(4) organizations are forthcoming – by early 2015.  The new regulations should more clearly define political activity, determine to whom it applies, and answer the question of how much political activity is required to threaten an organization’s tax exempt status.  This would obviate the murky “facts and circumstances” approach currently used and offer better insight for organizations concerned with losing their status.
