Biography
Martin M. Shenkman, CPA, MBA, PFS, JD, is an attorney in private practice in Paramus, New Jersey and New York City. His practice concentrates on estate and tax planning and estate administration.
Awards: Mr. Shenkman was included in Worth Magazines top 100 attorneys in 2007. He received the Alfred C. Clapp award from the New Jersey Bar Association in 2007. CPA Magazine listed him as one of the top 100 tax practitioners in 2008 and 40 tax advisers to know during a recession in 2009. Mr. Shenkman has been listed in Super Lawyers in 2008, 2009 and 2010. His book, Estate Planning for People with a Chronic Condition or Disability, was nominated for the 2009 Foreword Magazine Book of the Year Award. Several of his articles have won various professional awards over the years.
Media: A widely quoted expert on tax matters, Mr. Shenkman is a regular source for numerous financial and business publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Money, The New York Times, and others. He has appeared as a tax expert on numerous public and cable television shows including The Today Show, CNN, NBC Evening News, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN-FN, and others. He is a frequent guest on radio talk shows throughout the country and has a regular weekly radio show on Money Matters Financial Network.
Publishing: Mr. Shenkman is a prolific author, having published thirty-six books and more than seven hundred articles. Professional Involvement: Mr. Shenkman is an active member of the New York, New York City, New Jersey, Bergen County, and the Washington, D.C. Bar Associations, as well as various accounting and financial planning organizations. He has served as Vice Chair of the ABA RPTE fiduciary income tax and diversity committees and co-chair if the Emotional and Psychological Aspects of Estate Planning Committee. He has lectured for the ABA, NYSSCPA, NJSSCPA, NJ ICLE, PLI, NYU and many other professional organizations.
Community Involvement: Mr. Shenkman is active in numerous charitable organizations, sitting on many boards and planned giving committees and lectures regularly for these and other organizations. Mr. Shenkman's charitable endeavors have been profiled in Forbes, July 13, 2009 and the New York State Bar Association State Bar News in December 2009. He created and sponsors the charitable website www.rv4thecause.com.
Education: Mr. Shenkman received his Bachelor of Science degree from Wharton School, with a concentration in accounting and economics. He received a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan, with a concentration in tax and finance. He received his law degree from Fordham University School of Law, and is admitted to the bar in New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey, Michigan and New York. He is a registered Investment Adviser in New York and New Jersey.
