Michael C. Durney practices in Washington, D.C., and specializes in civil and criminal tax controversies, and related expert testimony, white collar defense matters, litigation and mediation. He was formerly Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division, United States Department of Justice, 1986-1988, and a trial attorney with the Tax Division from 1968 to 1972. Mr. Durney received his B.A. in 1965 from the University of California at Berkeley, and his J.D. in 1968 from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, where he was a member of the editorial board of the Hastings Law Journal. From 1972 through 1986, he was a partner in the Washington law firm of Hamel & Park (now Foley & Lardner) and in 1988-1990, a partner in the New York and Washington law firm of Myerson, Kuhn & Sterrett. He is a former Chairman of the Tax Section of the Federal Bar Association, a member of the Court Procedure and Civil and Criminal Penalties Committees of the American Bar Association Tax Section, and a Master of the J. Edgar Murdock (U.S. Tax Court) American Inn of Court, Washington, D.C. He is a frequent speaker and panelist for international, national, state and private tax organizations, author and co-author of articles for international and national tax publications, principally on tax compliance matters, and was co-author of "Criminal Tax Procedure," Tax Management Portfolio No. 162-2nd. |
