J. Clay Singleton is professor of finance at the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. During his career he has been an investment practitioner, educator, and researcher. Before joining the Crummer faculty he was vice president of Ibbotson Associates (now a division of Morningstar) where he was responsible for the firm's consulting, training, and research activities. Ibbotson Associates provides data, software, asset allocation consulting, research, training, and presentation materials to the investment profession. Dr. Singleton worked with the firm's consulting clients to design asset allocation strategies and directed the firm's research efforts. He also represented the firm before practitioner audiences, introducing them to innovations in investment strategies, asset allocation, and financial practice. He served Ibbotson Associates' compliance officer for its Registered Investment Advisor activities. Before joining Ibbotson Associates he was Senior Vice President for Curriculum and Examinations at the CFA Institute. In this capacity he was responsible for the CFA program's job analysis, candidate curriculum, and certification examinations. Dr. Singleton earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1985. In his academic career Dr. Singleton was on the faculty of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for twelve years. At Nebraska he was named to the Paul C. Burmeister Professorship of Investments and served as Associate Dean. He also won the University's Distinguished Teaching Award. He was subsequently named Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of North Texas where he served for four years. He has taught as a visiting professor at the University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary. In a consulting
role for PCE Investment Bankers, Dr. Singleton serves as Director of
Indexes where he oversees operations for the PCE Indexes, directs
research, and writes a monthly commentary for the PCE Index
newsletter. The indexes were created by Michael Poole, principal of
PCE Investment Bank, Dr. Singleton, and a team of 15 Crummer students
over a two-year period. Dr. Singleton's research in investments and finance has been widely published in both practitioner and academic journals. He has contributed articles to the Journal of Finance, Financial Management, and the Journal of Portfolio Management, among others. His book, Core-Satellite Portfolio Management: A Modern Approach to Professionally Managed Funds, was published in December 2004 by McGraw-Hill. Education Dr. Singleton earned his B.A.S in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis in 1969 and his MBA and his Ph.D. in Business from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1972 and 1979, respectively. |
