Don counsels international and domestic entrepreneurs, investors, philanthropists and privately-held businesses in the tax and legal issues relating to their investments, business activities, estate planning and charitable endeavors. He has also served as a mediator and an advocate in disputes involving the control of privately-owned businesses, investment ventures and family trusts.

His writings and speeches have been sponsored by such organizations as the American Bar Association and various state and local bar associations, the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation, Georgetown University, Vanderbilt University, the Canadian Institute, the Institute for International Research, Trusts and Estates, Family Office Exchange, Institute for Private Investors, STEP, and the Bureau of National Affairs.

Don graduated from Villanova University (cum laude 1967) and Harvard Law SchoolBryan Cave. He is licensed in the District of Columbia and admitted to appear before the U.S. Tax Court. (cum laude 1970). He served in the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Navy, was a Partner in Jones Day, and a Partner in Kozusko Harris Vetter Wareh LLP.

Don is a fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He was named by Worth Magazine to its list of the Top 100 Wealth Management Attorneys in the United States. He is a board member of "Shaking the Tree: Interactive Productions", a non-profit production company that uses theater to inspire positive change in family wealth management and philanthropic endeavors. Don is also a director of The U.S. Friends of Cayman HospiceCare, Inc. and several other foundations.

The firm was founded in February 2000. It now has eleven lawyers practicing in offices in Manhattan and Washington, D.C., and through an Of Counsel relationship in San Francisco. Clients include family offices, family businesses, foundations, international trusts, families with inherited wealth, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, executives, investors, and those who value integrated legal advice on a human scale. The firm's practice is entirely focused on the core legal services needed to build, control, and defend private wealth. The firm is organized to provide advice on issues that cross traditional legal boundaries without having to engage teams of lawyers for every important project. In order to preserve this focus, the firm does not attempt to maintain proficiency in certain distinct areas of the law, such as criminal defense and divorce representation, nor in regulatory and tax matters that usually affect only public companies; other firms can be engaged on behalf of clients when those issues arise.
