Virginia will not conform to the IRS's new tax treatment of same-sex married
couples. The Virginia Department of Taxation, after consulting with the Attorney
General, has ruled that state law and a state constitutional amendment prohibit
state recognition or the conferral of a benefit to same-sex married couples. Thus, allowing same-sex married couples to file jointly would violate Virginia Law
