Portability of Estate Tax Exemption Likely to be Preserved

Current law allowing a surviving spouse to make use of a predeceasing spouse's unused estate tax exemption is set to expire at the end of the year.  However, experts surveyed by the Wall Street Journal expect Congress to preserve this provision during its next session due to strong bipartisan support.
