The National Society of Accountants (NSA) has surveyed roughly 8,000 tax preparers and found the average fee to professionally prepare an itemized Form 1040 and a state tax return to be $233.00. The NSA also found the cost of preparing a non-itemized to be low as well, averaging at approxiametly $128.00. NSA Executive Vice President John Ams claims "This is one of the best values out there for any type of professional service, especially when you consider the complexity of the tax code.".
