The Law Commission, a statutory body created to keep the law of England and Wales under review and recommend reform in areas of the law that have become unduly complicated, outdated or unfair, has made several recommendations regarding the country's inheritance laws.
The Law Commission has recommended that the unmarried partner of someone who dies without a will should be able to inherit his/her estate without going to court if they have lived together for at least five years and that a surviving spouse should inherit the whole estate if the decedent had no will and there are no children.
