Senator Johnny Isakson, R.-Ga., introduced S. 1656, the Hardship Outlays to Protect Mortgagee Equity (HOME) Act.  The Act would allow for penalty-free retirement plan distributions in order to make mortgage payments on a principal residence, and it would modify the rules governing hardship distributions.

See Hardship Outlays to Protect Mortgagee Equity Act of 2011, S. 1656, 112th Cong. (2011).
