IRS Attempting to Tax Large Real Estate Gifts by Searching Land-Transfer Records

According to Arden Dale in the Wall Street Journal's Financial Adviser blog in IRS Scrutinizes Gifts of Real Estate, the IRS has commenced a low-profile yet intense program to tax individuals gifting large real estate parcels to others.  These transfers are often not reported to the IRS, and the IRS has begun searching land-transfer records to catch these omissions.
