Ellen P. Aprill on Registering a Congressional Legal Defense Fund as a Section 527 Organization

A recent article by Ellen P. Aprill, Professor of Tax Law at Loyola Law School, reports on the costs and benefits of registering a congressional legal defense fund as a s Section 527 organization. The report concludes that contributions to legal defense funds that do not register as section 527 may incurr gift and income tax liability that a 527 would not. See "Legal Defense Funds as Political Organizations." TNT 75-6.
