A Federal Judge ruled that a person cannot drop out of Medicare Part A without losing Social Security benefits.  The Judge reasoned that Congress's intent was to provide mandatory Medicare A coverage for all persons receiving Social Security retirement benefits.  Based on this ruling, some commentators suggest that the government can compel individuals into economic activity.  Therefore, the ruling may have implications for current cases challenging the health reform law.
