Annuities, Health Care Reform, Long Term Care Insurance, and Medicare: Agent's Sales Journal Publishes New Content

The Agent's Sales Journal has published terrific new content this week on the topics of annuities, health care reform, long term care insurance, and Medicare.

  • A Regulatory Roadmap for Annuities. In the aftermath of the 151A victory, there have been many questions from agents and brokers asking what's next. It seems that, following the industry's huge success, some really don't believe that the fight is over. And based on what we've been reading in the securities-fed media, they're right.
  • Thriving in the Midst of Health Care Reform. How's your "fight or flight" reflex these days? These two instinctive reactions to perceived danger have become the most common responses to health care reform legislation within our industry. Some people sense danger and are fighting change, while others are fleeing it -- sometimes by pretending that nothing is happening.
  • Understanding LTCI: A Cheat Sheet for Your Clients. Sometimes, even the most experienced long term care expert needs to think about the core concept of selling an LTCI policy: helping the client when they need the policy. The following is designed to help clients build a better understanding of this type of coverage. It may seem quite basic to some, but experience has shown that we sometimes forget that the client may have preconceived notions of, or perhaps no real idea about, what the policy is all about. We hope that this will remind us all of the importance of selling a long term care insurance policy.
  • Medicare Advantage Market Sees Encouraging Leap in Enrollment. Once again, we have Mark Farrah Associates to thank for delivering the latest: In her Feb. 25 article, Debra Donahue summarized Medicare Advantage enrollment numbers through Feb. 1, reporting that nearly 12.2 million people were enrolled in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans as of February 2011 - roughly 26 percent of the 46.4 million people eligible for Medicare, according to data from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
  • Help Employees Meet Their Challenges. In last month's entry, "Changing the Benefits Conversation from Products to Solutions," I wrote about how the services we provide are more than simply products - they are solutions to our customers' problems. This month, I want to expand on that a bit with a more specific example of how a solutions-oriented approach can present new opportunities to meet customers' needs.
