Treasury Focuses Attention to Providing Guidance on Estate Tax

The U.S. Treasury understands that many taxpayers and their attorneys are struggling with the confusion caused by the one year repeal of the federal estate tax. According to an article published by the Wall Street Journal, Catherine Hughes, attorney-adviser in the Treasury's Office of Tax Legislative Counsel, recently acknowledged that tax practitioners need help determining how to handle the lapse in the estate tax and that the agency was working on guidance that would provide the needed help.
