Kelly Greene has published an article in the July 24, 2010 edition of the Wall Street Journal discussing concerns for parents leaving behind a retirement account as part of their child's inheritance. Greene identifies the problem of controlling the rate a child can draw down a retirement account while still protecting the inheritance from creditors. Specifically, Greene identifies methods to utilize an irrevocable trust to protect the IRA distributions and explains the option of using a conduit trust as a means of customizing the distributions per child.
