Tax Notes has published an article by Naomi G. Goldberg, the Peter J. Cooper Public Policy Fellow at the Williams Institute, and Michael D. Steinberger, assistant professor of economics at Pomona College. The article examines the disparate treatment same-sex couples receive under the current estate tax regime. The authors conclude by urging Congress to pass legislation allowing same-sex couples use of the unlimited spousal exemption currently afforded to married heterosexual couples.
