Sarah Johnson: Federal Estate Tax Repealed

Sarah Johnson, an associate at Venable LLP, has written an article in Estate Planning Alert, a publication of Venable's Tax and Wealth Planning Group entitled: "Federal Estate Tax Repealed (For One Year Only, or Possibly Not at All)." In her article, Johnson explains the consequences of repealing the estate tax from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010. Topics she addresses are:

  • New tax basis regime
  • Reinstatement of estate tax in 2011, or retroactively to 2010
  • Generation-skipping transfer tax repealed
  • Gift tax remains in effect
  • Gift tax rate
