In "The American Option: A Jobs Plan That Works," Senator Jim DeMint, Republican Senator of South Carolina, criticized House stimulus and promoted his own plan. The speech was given at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, on January 29, 2009. According to his speech, the stimulus plan proposed by the Democratic party would spend a considerable amount of money with dubious benefits. On the other hand, DeMint argued, his own plan,  "the American Option," would focus on permanent tax cuts and create 22 million jobs in 10 years.
